Charlotte Host Family Program

Connecting International Students with American Families

The Charlotte community offers the opportunity for international students to develop a friendship with an American family. This is a chance for people from different cultures to share some common experiences and learn more about each other also. Program began over 40 years ago involving international students from four colleges and universities and Charlotte community members.

How it Works

  • International students request an American host family living in the Charlotte metro area
  • Host family initiates with student by inviting them to dinner or an event like Thanksgiving or baseball game

Benefits

This is a great opportunity for international student practice their English and host family helps student when needed such as finding a bank, grocery store; etc. Plus the student may want to cook a meal from their country for thier host family.

Note: It is not a live-in situation and not directly affiliated with UNC Charlotte or ISSO.

This program is mainly intended for first year students (freshmen and transfers) but all welcome.
